For many years, I have used a monthly poem in my pocket chart center. In my opinion, the use of poems in centers should be required!

Why do I feel so strong about poetry centers?

When you were small, did you learn nursery rhymes? Do you still remember them well? Poetry centers have that effect on students. When the poems are fun and engaging they stick with kids! If you introduce a poem students can also sing, you have just upped the game. They will remember it, and be able to apply what they have learned to the activities in your poetry center.
