The Importance of Calendar Time
Hello Dear Teachers! I know it stings a little, just thinking of all that needs to be done by the first day of school.I hope you have enjoyed the time off, and are refreshed and excited about the new year!
From the beginning of life, the calendar marks major milestones in a person’s life.
How time passes is a critical element in early learning. Students need to recognize short or longer durations of time, how the passing of time is documented on the calendar, and how we can make plans and memories related to the calendar.
Calendar Time Can Be a Quick 5 Minute Activity–Really!
After just a few days, your students can be independent with calendar activities because they quickly learn the next traceable day is TODAY! (hey, they need the practice, so why not give them traceable numbers?) They can count up to the date from the first of the month, then color the correct number of boxes on the ten frame page. Tally Experts may assist with tallying up the date. Students also learn to count as they color in the ten frames and make tally marks to represent the count. When you begin the day, you have discussed the weather, so coloring a block on the weather graph is “just one more block” than yesterday. This routine is perfect for “first thing” every morning.
