The biggest obstacle to blended learning is, and has always been, how to get parents to see and respond to important, helpful instruction on ways to make the interaction with their child productive. In my circumstance, only half of the parents have digital devices or internet at home, usually. However, as smart phones and other tech are developed, prices get more reasonable, so I expect to have more that can participate this year.
The very first strategy I model is how to conduct an alphabet chart chant stating the letter, the sound, and the name of the object. I explain how fast it should be said, that the student needs to point to each element (three taps) and for the parent to give assistance until they see the child be able to chant the chart alone. I also explain that stating the letters in order does not mean the child truly knows the letters and sounds out of order. This will take two to three strategy sessions to help parents feel confident they are having students chant correctly.
What do you think you will teach for your first strategy? Be sure to link up!!!
