There is something about the first day back to school after the New Year. Our little kinders seem to have grown by leaps and bounds, and there is a “magic” in how much they have learned by the time we reassess skills. My dear friend told me this many years ago, and I really didn’t believe her until that first January “magic” happened. Those little brains had mysteriously “clicked” into high gear. What a nice surprise!
Now, to keep it real…there are still a few little ones who need a lot of support because they haven’t experienced their own ah-hah moment quite yet. I begin to pull out activities that will support them as they sort it all out. My favorite activities involve manipulating words and lines of poems. It not only supports them as they practice predictable text, but it solidifies print tracking skills, correct grammar usage, rhyming words, and more!
If you like poetry, you may like my seasonal poetry set. There are poems for every season, along with a poetry book page and graphics to illustrate each line.
If you are looking for resources to support your students as they learn to write their names, write using lined paper, or practice core standards for math, look for them in my store. I am celebrating new beginnings by throwing a sale!
Have a great New Year!!
