If you have been following me on Twitter, you may be aware of the enormous pile of pumpkins that has overtaken my living room! My farmer hubby had great success with his pumpkin crop this year, so we have a lot. And since the weather has been hot, we had to move them in to keep them from ruining. THIS is my current situation.
The good news is, all of our kindergarten and pre-k students will have a small pumpkin to take home! That was the plan. 🙂 Those little pumpkins will go home with students after our Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch!
Need a quick pumpkin patch related literacy activity? You can grab this:
Of course, since tomorrow is John Chapman’s birthday, so I must share what we have done to celebrate the Legend of Johnny Appleseed! Last year, we had a fun time creating scarecrow kids with real flannel fabric and raffia for straw. They turned out so cute!

And if you want a quick to prep Johnny Appleseed/Apple Themed Set, here is my favorite Apple Poetry Set! It includes a pocket chart poem, individual poem, and emergent reader. I have been told the poem really sticks in students’ heads (I know they loved it in my class)! Sing the poem to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy!
I hope you have a fun filled Johnny Appleseed Day! Be sure to grab the freebies and let me know how you will spend the week!!!
