I am still here! I started school last Thursday–one week ago today. It has been a great week, and as expected, my poor blog had to wait.
It is always a bit of a shock to start over. They are so young! There are so many “can’t dos” to turn into “can dos”. But I know my students will learn and grow in many ways through the year.
One thing students CAN do at the beginning of kindergarten is the daily vocabulary practice from Big Word Club.
This amazing program teaches words to kids in three ways, and is wonderfully entertaining, engaging, and effective in helping their minds grow. Author and Founder of Big Word Club, Shane DeRolf, states:
“Over one million students entering kindergarten this year will have 400-700 fewer words in their vocabulary than their classmates.”
Big Word Club’s mission is to help close the “Word Gap” by offering multi-sensory videos that help students understand the big words. Success in the work place and achievement are directly related to student vocabulary. In essence, the more words they know, the more they can do!
Students from grades Pre-K to Grade 5 enjoy learning with Big Word Club. My kinder students are totally engaged while stretching those brains!
Just this week, Big Word Club was honored with the prestigious Silver Medal from Parents’ Choice Foundation. This honor is only bestowed to organizations or programs that exemplify strong educational benefit to our children.
Though Big Word Club is a paid subscription for educators and parents, the full version of the program will be FREE during the month of September! This is a great opportunity for you to see what I am talking about. Try it! You won’t be disappointed.
This coming Tuesday, 8/24, Shane DeRolf of Big Word Club will be our guest at #TeacherFriends Twitter Chat. Come over and join us! This will be an interesting chat with lots of information on connecting kids to resources that increase their vocabulary. Early Bird chat is at 8:30 EST, and regular chat begins at 9:00 EST.
Have a great weekend!
