Can you believe how busy we can be during the month of February? We start with a little old groundhog from Punxsutawney, PA and end up with a study of Presidents! Along the way we have a Valentine Party and talk about our teeth! I don’t think you could make this up if you tried. So, here’s what I have planned for the month:
February 2: We take a virtual trip to Gobbler’s Knob to see Punxsutawney Phil, then I stop our trip briefly to take a poll. We record this on our graph, then proceed to watch Phil to see if our prediction was correct. This day is perfect for a lesson on collecting and recording data! We also make a cool hat that has Yes/No to explain what Phil saw. Here is the information for your virtual field trip, and the data and hat printables if you would like to use them. 🙂

During this same week!!!! Day 100:
My students will bring in all kinds of things to count, and we will be walking 100 tiles in the hall, 100 steps on the playground, and more! I plan to use an already fabulous 100 Day pack from my friend Greg at the Kindergarten Smorgasboard! He has a 100 Day mat just perfect for counting 100 Fruit Loops, 100 pennies, 100 poms, 100 m&ms…and the list goes on and on! Here is a link to his 100 Day Fiesta pack if you need a good one!
Then, on February 12th (and during the entire two weeks before), we write and count using the Valentine theme. I created this cute little set for my stamping center last year that is a hit with this year’s crowd too! You can find it by clicking on the pic!
Announcing a great book study in February! We will be exploring the book,

Join Kristen Poindexter, Dr. Jonna McGaughy Cindy Price and Maggie Hufstedler (that’s me!) for an important study on best practices in writing with kindergarten students! Stay tuned!

Being a teacher, I love looking through blogs. I wanted to share a new children’s book I read to my class. It’s called “Cooking With Mr. C.” by John Contratti. It’s a sweet story with a beautiful message. I’m telling all my teacher friends about it. I got it through Mascot Books and my friends ordered it through Amazon. (She does everything through Amazon.) 🙂 Elaine
