It’s Monday again? Wow, this summer is dwindling away, isn’t it! I am joining up with 4th Grade Frolics again for Monday Made It. This week, I have been checking off my list of “to-do’s” before going back to get my room ready later this week. There is so much to do!
I plan to re-label my library tubs and books this year, converting it to a numbered system. I have tried sticker matching, color dots and a whole array of systems, but none have worked well. Another aspect is how classroom design must be purposeful. Numbering the tubs allows students to identify numbers as they browse for books, then match number to same number when returning books to tubs. I love these locker storage bins from Dollar Tree. I have them in the green and blue colors.
I will be using table tubs with scissors, glue and markers for my group tables. Because students do not need these particular supplies all the time, they will be stored on a shelf until needed. Students tend to get distracted in kinder when there are cool things like scissors, glue and markers nearby, right? This practice saves loads of instruction time too. My tubs are from Lakeshore, and I love them! They are four or five years old now, and just as nice as when I purchased them.
My book tubs are another area that are getting an update! As students move in and out of their leveled group, I like to have them switch to the tub color that goes with the group they have moved to. This can be a problem when name labels are concerned, so I made new labels for the clear pockets that remain on each tub. I love these clear pockets! Students can quickly move their label to a different colored tub.
