After learning about which reading series our district was going with last year, I developed animated power point slideshows to help us learn the enormous list of words expected in Journeys 2014. As the year has progressed, we have utilized this method of review every morning, and during reading or transition times. I am very pleased with the results. Every year is different, and some years I have more students practicing at home, but this year is not one of those years, so I have to be diligent in presenting these words at every opportunity. Along with writing and making the words, this has helped us to pass each list of five or six words every week. I initially created the slideshows with a list view only, but found students were memorizing the order of the words. I then added single words on the slides and mixed the order so it would be different than the list view. Here is a free sampler of words we teach after January with the words: make, them, give, play, say, new.

And, for those who teach standardized tests (I know, I know…we shouldn’t have to do this!!!), here is a sampler of my standardized test practice packet.

You can find links to these products in my sidebar! Suggested use for bubbling in practice:
Have these sheets in one of your centers. Kinders need fine motor with pencils, so have them to try messy bubbles, then beautiful bubbles! My kids love to fill in bubbles!
I know there are people who disagree, as I do, with even having to give these types of tests to kids younger than third grade, but it is what is mandated, and I for one will not have my students unaware of the process. It wouldn’t be fair.
Please respect the teachers who must do this.
