I will say it again…I LOVE this time of year! Happy Fall! My students are making progress in writing their names, recognizing the alphabet sounds and letter names, and will continue working on number concepts this week. To keep those number concepts fresh, and allow for ample opportunities to practice one-one counting, we will begin our first CCSS Math Journal this week. Students will use bingo dot paints, small manipulatives, cereal, and many other things to count and group objects to five. They will also have lots of opportunities to write the numbers from 0-5, both in our math series workbook and the math journals. Our quarter will end the third week of October, so assessment time is coming. Journaling allows for authentic display of student understanding.
In addition to our new journaling activities, we will celebrate another new thing: Johnny Appleseed Week! With the help of Mrs. Hoffer’s graphing activities, we will taste and compare each type of apple. For a little history lesson, we’ll turn to my Johnny Appleseed Pocket Chart Activities.
And, I haven’t forgotten my blog followers. I made this nifty little Johnny Appleseed Letter Tile activity for spelling Johnny’s name. Just click on the pic to download your FREEBIE!
