Okay, let’s get this part out of the way. I did not spend hours on one pocket, so you will
see uneven seams, threads hanging out, and wrinkles (wrinkles will be ironed out)! This is the
third set I have made in approximately 8-10 years, so I have it in my head. In the tutorial,
I tried to show you that you do not have to make it complicated to do this type of project
(after all, this is summer vacation).
I do not use a metered sewing board or a fancy cutting wheel. In fact, it is easier to get
uneven sides doing it with a board and a cutter. I’d rather take my chances on my scissors.
My method allows you to fold in halves, then in thirds, make it as even as possible, then cut all folded edges in two while the sheet is still folded up! You will have 12 pieces that are very near the same size by doing it this way. Like I said, I do not plan to spend my summer sewing chair pockets! Ribbon is OPTIONAL! I have tried using stitch-witchery (an iron on
adhesive) for attaching the ribbon, but kinders will eventually peel that off, trust me!
If you use ribbon, sew it with a large stitch on both top and bottom edges.
For this project you need:
2 queen size sheets from Walmart (approx. 25.00)
2 spools of thread (color is your decision)
Scissors
1.5 inch ribbon
Pre-wash the sheets before beginning the project. To see step by step, click on the pic below to download the power point. I hope it is clear enough for you to get an idea of how it’s
done. If anyone does this with a hand held sewing machine tool, let me know how it worked out.
24 pockets will take about 4 hours of sewing–do 6 and take a break! Do another 6…you
get the
idea đŸ™‚ Oh! Approximate measurements are 16 1/2 inches (width of the 1/3 piece after all
cuts have been made). The length of a piece is approximately 4 feet (or half the length of a bed sheet). My chair backs are 13″ wide, so this finished 14 1/2 inch-15 inch pocket should fit well.
