And they do not disappoint!
Math Work Stations, Chapter 4:
Obviously, this is not a book you can put down! I began reading at 12:30, and didn’t stop until almost 3:00. Diller’s book is well organized, clear and direct, and I must say…I am going to call Chapter 4 the “Conversations” chapter. The importance of the language of math is inserted into every nook and cranny of the chapter. I like her use of I Can charts on all of the stations boxes, the use of “Math Talk” cards to remind students to use the descriptive language of math during their work time, and how she encourages conversation between the partners to promote a cooperative atmosphere when exploring numbers. Something I already plan to do is make talk cards more useful to my k students by using a combination of familiar words and pictures to make them easier to read. Another great addition to this chapter is the list of literature links. I know they have been tried and tested with kinder kids so I can trust they will enhance instruction in my classroom too.
Thank goodness for the Troubleshooting section. It’s practical advice for helping things to run more smoothly. There are so many great ideas to implement this coming year with Beginning Number Concepts! I can’t wait to get started!!!
Stay tuned for Fish-n-Dots cards! Coming soon to TpT!
