When the last week of January gets here, I am ultra excited about introducing the next month with Groundhog Day! Those cute (sometimes annoying) creatures are all over the place in my community. Kids know what they are. So we learn about them as we make our predictions about whether the groundhog will or will not see his/her shadow.
Depending on how involved you want to make the study of groundhogs, you can’t beat a good anchor chart for labeling parts of the groundhog, what is needed for his prediction (sun or clouds) and give him a name! You may choose to include a boy and a girl groundhog in your discussion.
